Can Stress be Positive?

Can Stress be Positive?

I just read about positive stress and to say the least, I am shocked. Shocked that anything about stress could be positive. The author suggested that utilizing stress to accomplish something that might not be otherwise done is positive stress. I thought that was the result of good time management or working through the stress caused by events.

This is possibly where I am not looking at both sides of the same coin, in other words, using the stress of a deadline allowed us to put men on the moon. I am sure there was a lot of stress in that schedule since from the beginning no one knew what that project would entail. They only knew the goal and I am sure somebody had to keep reminding them of it at times. Especially when the setbacks occurred in the program. It couldn’t have been easy to keep going after the rocket burned up on the launch pad, or a mission had to be aborted and the space capsule returned to earth without accomplishing the stated mission. A lot of learning took place under STRESS in those days. Looking back, I am amazed at what was accomplished in the time frame and really am hard pressed to name an accomplishment so great in recent times. I do get a lump in my throat every time I see a space shuttle launched or come back to earth from a mission. I guess you could say I’m a sentimental kind of guy.

Positive stress isn’t something that can be dealt with by the normal methods as it is actually the result of turning what might have caused negative stress around and using it to our advantage.

That way it doesn’t become something we deal with after the fact. So I guess positive stress could be the result of us doing something about a situation before it becomes stressful and has to be dealt with after the fact.
