The Effect of Stress on Your Driving
Or is it the effect of your driving on stress?
Have you ever noticed that when you are driving you are kind of zoned out? Not paying real good attention to everything going on around you until somebody does something CRAZY? Or you suddenly come upon an accident, or heaven forbid, get stopped for a ticket?
Each of these incidents will raise your adernaline level, sometimes through the roof. Have you noticed that you pay a lot more attention to what is going on around you for at least several minutes - or until the cop is out of sight???? At any rate, it is best to stop (if you can) and take a couple of deep breaths and calm yourself before proceeding.
In the case of another driver going nuts, you really have to take several deep breaths and calm yourself to keep from going after the idiot to give them a piece of your mind. If you don’t, you will probably end up doing something equally as bad as the driver who torqued you. Making the effort to calm yourself can prevent further stress as you continue driving.
In the event of an accident or a similar incident while there is nothing you can do about it, your adrenalin will still rise at least a little expecially if you are in a near miss situation. Once again, taking the time to calm yourself by taking several deep breaths while telling yourself to calm down and take it easy is the best route.
