Has stress got you down?

We all know that everyone has some stress, the question is how do you handle that stress?  You have to deal with it at one time or another and probably the sooner you deal with it, the sooner you can move on to other things.

Dealing with stress doesn’t take a PhD in psychology or a doctor’s prescription for zantax, it takes a little discipline in dealing with the negative things that happen in your life.  The discipline is in how you look at situations which may not be the way you wanted them to be.  You can choose to look at them in a bad light or you can say to yourself that shouldn’t have happened that way, but it did happen so now I must figure a way around or through or over that obstacle to my happiness.  Because that is all it is, is an obstacle.  It is not the end of the world unless you choose to allow it to be.

For example; You lost your job - that means you must tighten your belt for a little while and go looking for another job.  With the right attitude, it will be a better job than the one you lost.  It is certain that if you have a negative attitude about the situation, you will not get a job because your attitude will affect how you interview.  Begin with a positive attitude and choose to keep it going until things turn around for you.

If you choose to be unstoppable then nobody or no situation can prevent you from achieving what you want in life.  You can choose whatever life you want and you can choose to have it or not.  It all boils down to choices - yours and yours alone.  Nobody can choose for you and sometimes you have to get away from those who would choose for you.  Like your family - they mean well, but if they were so good at making good choices, why aren’t they successful.  Have you ever noticed how those who don’t have much are the first to offer advice?  And that those who have something are fairly slow to give advice?  I guess this means you shouldn’t pay attention to those who make less than you would like to.

In fact, I try to only listen to advice from those who have what I want, not what I don’t want.  And I find it a lot more interesting to be around those who are creating their lives rather than just existing.  This attitude can really help prevent stress since you always have something to look forward to even when things don’t go as planned.

Now if you want to deal with stress that happens one way of doing so is to try to solve the problem.  In fact that is what most of us do and is what professionals try to accomplish.  The problem is that solving one problem creates another.  And the new problem is big enough that you find that you really could have lived with the previous problem so now you have even more stress than before.

Another method of dealing with stress is that instead of solving the problem, you counteract it.  You do this by changing how you look at the problem and choosing how you react to the problem.  Once again, nobody can do this for you, you must do it yourself but long lasting results can be achieved leading to success and happiness in life.

I also find that setting goals is great for focus and motivation towards achieving your dreams. This can help to reduce your stress and focus you on success. To help you achieve your goals, don’t just set and forget, but build a clear path with short-term goals that take you step-by-step towards your long-term goal. By having goals that you are working on today can help you to manage the distractions that take you away from what you are trying to achieve. I write more about this at

One of the best methods of dealing with stress is determining what causes it and tackling the problem hands on. Often there is more than one factor, and it helps to pinpoint the factors and tackle them one at a time. You can gain more info on problem pinpointing at

good luck in relieving your stress,
