Working Stress Over At Work

Proper stress management at work is essential to living a stress free life.  Workplace stress can come from many sources - poorly defined goals, annoying co-workers, incompetent employees, incompetent management, uncaring management, etc.  The list could go on and on but the important thing here is that it all has to be managed properly if we are to prevent major problems in our lives.

Uncontrolled stress can have many results.  Such as, lack of sleep, headaches, weight gain, upset stomach, ulcers, heartburn in the short term but long term it can lead to hypertension and heart attack or stroke.  These physical issues are not alone as there can also be emotional problems caused such as loss of self esteem, depression, loss of concentration and others.

With all the many stress management programs available providing tips for managing stress or cute little sayings to repeat when stressed, there is still a need for a tough management system to derail the stress.

Most stress management systems deal with such things as deep breathing, positive self talk, meditation, time management which all work to some degree but not permanently.  What we need is some system to manage all the stresses that hit us at work.  Something that provides all the tools necessary.

Since most stress is caused by some form of the fight or flight response any tool that provides a broader range of solutions to a problem gives latitude not normally found.  Creative problem solving is one such tool.  Deliberately coming up with numerous possible scenarios gives the choice of ways to resolve the issue without becoming stressed and is highly efficient.  This is a tool that many fail to utilize to any extent.

What is tremendous about coming up with creative solutions is that one can end up as the person who can lead others out of sticky situations.  They are looked up to as having the coolest thinking in a crisis or as always having good ideas.  Eventually they become leaders and get the promotions, good raises and respect of other workers and even management.  I was taught that I should never take a problem to my management unless I had also come up with a solution to that problem.  This leads to creative thinking instead of whining.

The technique of creative problem solving can help reduce or eliminate stress at work or in your life.  This key component of stress management provides many possible responses when a stressful situation arises.
