Still Talking About Aromatherapy.
The beneficial effect that essential oils have on our bodies are numerous. They have been used since ancient times as a treatment for anything from emotional distress to physical injury. These oils immediately act upon our sense of smell and this stimulates olfactory cells that send messages to our brain’s limbic system. The limbic system controls emotions, memory, circulation of the blood and hormone secretion. When massaged using these oils they are absorbed directly into the skin and disperse thgoughout the body.
Three main types of essential oils exist. This is categorized by the rate of evaporation.
First are in the most stimulating category. Strong scented, perfume like, lasting from 3 to 20 hours. Oils such as eucalyptus, thyme, corriander, peppermint and basil are in this category. While these last from 3 to 20 hours, they are the quickest to evaporate.
Longer lasting aromatic essential oils can linger for two to three days. These directly affect the metabolism of the body. Not as strong as the first category, these include rosemary, lavender, chamomile and juniper.
Longest lasting, slowest to evaporate this last category can remain aromatic for as long as a week. These include ginger, cedarwood, jasmine, and rose and they relax and comfort the body.
Quality perfumes will utilize a combination of all three categories. If you were concocting your own blend, you could use any of these oils that suited your fancy and smelled good to you. If you make a good batch you can then use them as massage oils or wear them or inhale them in times of stress. Having your own blend means you can do whatever you want whenever you want. Instant stress relief in your pocket.
