Are You Sabotaging Yourself?
Freeing yourself from worry and stress may be the most important thing you can do today. Worry and stress are counterproductive, no matter what anyone says.
Worry is like fear. Fear has been defined as an acronym for Future Events Appearing Real which means we imagine unpleasantness as if it has already taken place. You lose the joy of the present and your ability to see things clearly. Eventually continuing stress and worry can lead to physical health problems in addition to the mental distress most of us go through. The good news is that the amount of time we spend on stress and worry is up to us.
Many try to foist their worry off on outside sources believing it to be the only possible response to a stressful situation and consequently that they don’t have any control over the situation. Others live with the mistaken belief that worry and stress are useful and somewhat necessary.
To change your perspective, begin by checking what you believe about worry and stress. What is the reason you are doing it? What do you hope to gain by it? In order to relieve yourself from stress and worry you need to know how you believe it will be of benefit to you.
None of the preconceived notions about stress and worry being necessary and useful are true. Obsessive worrying is a sign of immaturity and lack of proper perspective. It only keeps you in the situation - remember The Secret - what you think and ponder (worry) about is what you attract. You should only address a problem long enough to determine if it is something you can resolve or you should pass by. If you can resolve the issue then do so, otherwise accept it and move on.
Take a good look at why you worry and I hope you will find that it can truly be hurting you rather than helping you. Back to the Serenity Prayer…
God Grant Me the Serenity to Accept the Things I Cannot Change; Courage to Change the Things I Can, and Wisdom to Know the Difference. This doesn’t say anything about attempting to change the things I can’t so I personally want to spend my time changing the things I can.
